Re: Making pier gaff
Thanks for the kind words!!!
cold up here....but warming wed. so hopefully get the next 4 welded in the garage and poured by the end of the week....doing my best with these, and might try for a little longer bigger tear drop.....it was fun bending that tight, around the 5/8 stainless rod....still need one for meoke1:...
a bad bend start, cost me that one....first thing in the morning after changing a measurement the day before and starting without changing the other measurement on the board (my cheat sheet) by that 1 in....
oh well....will get more stainless rod..... maybe more will want some come king season..... gets going good.Bill..............

Great job Bill,I owe ya one.

NO John..... I really owe you one....without the dimensions and well picture, that someone else posted....It could have never happened, although it does resemble a store bought gaff I already own....with regular BIG hooks and barbs, and the lead for weight....
But THANK YOU so much for the help and kind words from ALLBill..............

Re: Making pier gaff
Turned out nicer then I thought....so hit the garage for a little welding, ran out of daylight so the last will get done tomorrow....may pour some lead tonight ....who knows
decided to make a jig to hold the prongs and to clamp easier...a few pictures....moving right along considering.

Re: Making pier gaff
I can't tell from the pics, but make sure the eye is welded and smooth so the anglers line doesn't get caught inside or cut.

John,
That is the next thing for sure....way to windy yesterday to use the tig and the gas shield....they will be pulled tight and tig welded smooth....I had stick welded the prong's to the main shaft but will tig weld the eyes.... and the pencil points for the last .....then done....ready for a rope and fish
just so you know and can see in the pictures(that's why I am posting them)
the rope eyes aren't perfect in anyway, and different from one another(slightly except for the first one)....did the best I could....and will try to do better in the future.....but they should hold a rope and gaff fish.....so look at the pictures good and decide if you still want one
as I am handling and working with them......I am liking them better all the time, and now have enough material to make one for me too :yay:
Bill..............

I seen fish killed in Melbourne in the early 70's, we were snagging some monster fish out of the ICWW around Merrit Island. loved the fishing opportunity's as a kid there, fresh and salt water both...
