Exactly.
It's the same pricipal as not feeding porpoises, bears, seagulls, etc.

The pier is no place for a 'petting zoo'.
There is not much out there that won't bite, slash, sting, stick or stab ya.

Ive been bit by a pelican. Seagulls hurt worst.
