I try to keep them alive, but the bigger ones are better bait cut (or pinched) in half.
They are difficult to keep alive overnite because they poop and pee in the water and sand so much.
They will seem fine then all the sudden almost all of them die.
I've been meaning to try a chemical treatment like U2 which helps neutralize the amonia in the water.

Anyway, once they die I put 2 - 3 dozen in a ziplock bag with seawater and freeze them.
The next best thing to live ;-)
    (RETIRED) mostly.

Our 1st day was pretty good, since we had just arrived, and dock time was limited.
    2 decent trout, 19, 22
    3 smallish croakers
1 ray as big as a trash can lid...

caught the same one legged crab twice

plenty of finger mullet and menhadden, no shrimp.

    Day2 - not much biting...

Spent a couple hours early Am at the West Pass casting artificial's - not even a sniff.
Hopkins, Berkley and Spro Swim baits

Afternoon was a little better, 3 smalish reds just under the slot caught on shrimp

Found some live shrimp at Top Gun down in Orange beach for evening fishing, but no takers.
