I've heard from several VS owners that they are "tighter" than oher reels they have fished.
One drag 'testing' (or 'beak-in') method I have used successfully for years is to tie the line off to an immoveable object and simply walk, away from it.Once the proper setting is determined I try it again sprinting away from it.
Of course I never was near as fast as a mackerel, and I sure as hell ain't now! :P LOL!
Those are fine reels Steffan, and your wife is a wonderful mate to get you one! :headbang:

Seffan, you are the man; don’t let her get away!
I don’t have a Van Staal and I am too cheap to get up off my wallet and buy one; I’m a wrong hand reeler anyway.
However, with that being said; if anyone has video of #r performing this drag test, “Once the proper setting is determined I try it again sprinting away from it.” and he goes over 100 yards, I’m willing to pay big bucks for that!

LOL!
I hate to derail this fine thread Fin, but ANYTIME you want to "do the 100" I'm up fer it! oke1:(RETIRED) mostly.

Thanks,I have been looking at reels for a month my stradic 6000 was ripped a few weeks back at the peir and I was suppose to fish this past weekend , but her best friend is going thru a divorce so I had to stay back and keep the kids while they had girls weekend. The reel was a gift for not getting upset , I will hopefully try it out Saturday morning.

Re: Vs 200
I use my 18v cordless drill with a nail in the chuck to strip old line, that would work with less sweating. Word of warning if you strip a few hundred yards this way you won't have to cut the line, it will melt!

Re: Vs 200
My little brother wrapped the line around a gloved hand and ran across my football field size yard about 20 times drag is smooth and it don't even reel like the same reel. Love it.

Educate me a little bit if you will. What are good turbidity numbers? If you can check those stats and determine what the water looks like before you go, that would be VERY helpful!
