Maybe one out of the box ideas should deal with habitat. If this was deer hunting, we'd be talking about food plots and cover and other best-practices for growing the herd. What's the difference, even when we're talking about saltwater species? Doesn't it still come down to food and habitat? Could rich habitat, vertical artificial reefs (covering different parts of the water column) and no-angling zones in the areas where these zones exist help? I know - who wants more laws, right? But maybe these new super-reefs could be designed in areas where nobody is fishing now anyway, because the area is relatively devoid of game fish? It's the 21st Century! We should be able to mark a no-angling zone using coordinates and the increase in fish stocks should allow us to increase the limits that the angler takes home! After all what good is a great idea if there's no benefit to the fisherman?

Yes and no.
Habitat (more of) yes.
But so-called NO FISHING ZONES are a farsicle invention of the NO FISHING PERIOD wacko movement.
It appeals to the emotions of people but the science doesn't back it up.
No Take Marine Protected Areas (nMPAs) as a fishery management tool
And this is just in relation to 'reef' species such as grouper, snapper, etc.
Pelagic species (mackerel, cobia, etc.) are even more free ranging which renders nMPA's even more impractical from an effective fish stock management perspective.

PP - Yeah, I'm just trying to think of ways to make fishing better/more productive. HowZa bout supplemental stocking for desirable species, like Cobia? I know -- the science isn't behind supplemental stocking, either. Is there anything other than the current limits and seasons that science DOES support? And has supplemental stocking been tried on such a massive scale?

Cobia are easily farmed for sale. Could they be farmed for release?

Certainly they COULD, but would it take, on a large scale? I think that it would be very cool to have a situation where cobia swam in schools of 100 or more! There would probably be a downside risk but marine biologists would likely be able to predict what those might be.

There were some released in Mississippi a year or two ago. Saw it in an article. Was something like a couple thousand released. Babies to grow up in the wild.

On the subjects of flying R/C drones, flying them around isn't hard. Fighting the ocean breeze and landing it back safely on a loaded octi would be difficult and would be enough to "earn your wings". Not sure it would be worth chancing a couple hundred bucks not including the GoPro.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
