If anyone else wants to come in and see how easy it is to build a rod, be at J&M a little after 5am this Saturday.

I'd do that for you, but I seriously hope to be busily hands on building my new King rod.

Understood Chile. My intention was to let John know how awesome I thought this was and that I would be there in a heartbeat if not for the 12 hour drive. As, previously stated yet another example of J&M rocks!

John any chance you'd be willing to do this during the summer? I'd love to do this too.

JohnG - do you have 2pc blanks for the Travlin Man?
Good times, Good friends, Great Beer. You can buy all three - But it's always better to invest the time to make your own.

You have to use a one piece fiberglass blank, cut it where the under wrap will start, make a 4" tapered solid fiberglass plug with half of it glued inside the butt end then the tip end of the plug shaped on a lathe to where the tip section is about a 1/4" from jamming against the butt. I have made several 2pc rods like this including some offshore rods in the 30 and 50lb class with detachable butts (now a 3pc) for people working on oil rigs or flying to remote areas on puddle jumpers because a rod must fit into a travel bag.
