can not believe anyone would say NOAA was the best!!!! i guess being the best does not necessarily mean being good...
"good" meaning what? Not worth the money?
NOAA is FREE for all of us to use (or not).
Being these other 'pay for' weather services get ALL of their data from NOAA, I'm at a loss to understand how they can outperform NOAA services.
About 10 years ago a couple of these upstart weather companies tried to petition Congress to get the NWS and NHC out of the forecasting business completely.
That would have meant all Americans would then have to pay THEM for the information which has already been bought and paid for by tax dollars.
I feel sorry for anyone who actually pays for their so-called forecasts as we have all already paid for them with what is unequivocally the biggest and dare I say best weather information gathering and desiminating organization in the world.(RETIRED) mostly.

Well Spin, I guess you are right, here is the forecast track trom http://www.crownweather.com/?page_id=7073
Oh wait, that is the NOAA map, I guess Crownweather.com thinks NOAA is pretty damn good too.
In fact all their maps appear to be copied from NOAA!
Just sayin’

crown does use all the NOAA i am sure but whoever runs that site is always about 2 days ahead on predictions than the weather channel and NHC. look at his archive reports... that being said, i hope they are all wrong......
by the way crown is a free site...

:
IN-accuweather has about THE worst reputation in the weather forecasting industry for over hyping storms such as this.
IMHO what they are doing is criminal and they should be shut down, at the very least their so-called forecasts should come with the disclaimer "For entertainment purposes ONLY!".oke1:
OFFICIAL advisories and forecasts from NOAA's NWS and NHC are the ONLY sources that should be trusted in weather situations like the current one we are facing.

The reason they make predictions 2 days ahead is because they are using data that is relatively unreliable.
TS forecast predictions more than 3 days out have an error factor of nearly 50% and the intensity forecasts have even more error.
Thus an intensity forecast more than 3 days ahead is at best a 50/50 guess.
And yes, even I can do that by flipping coin, which CW requests BTW to continue to provide it's viewers from the publicly funded domain at NOAA ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: Storm is starting to sound bad.
i am jsut saying that i have followed crown for a few years and whoever is making their forecast is pretty good at looking at data and guessing right more times than not. all weather prediction is guessing albeit educated guessing some are better than others,
i like crown you like who you like ...no big deal to me...i think we are all hoping for the same thing....

I do think NOAA is by far the most reliable, but how cool in wunderground's wundermap? They have THE COOLEST maps.

Re: Storm is starting to sound bad.
I've been reading Crown for a couple of years. This year, it has missed badly on some of the predictions. I'll stick with NOAA and Weather Underground, which are pretty much the same. I don't live on the beach, but with tropical events, I live too d@mned close.

Re: Storm is starting to sound bad.
We live in Foley, how concerned should we be as far as having to evacuate and head north for a few days? Sorry if this is a simple question but we just moved here in January from Birmingham and have no hurricane experience.
Thanks,
David

I seen fish killed in Melbourne in the early 70's, we were snagging some monster fish out of the ICWW around Merrit Island. loved the fishing opportunity's as a kid there, fresh and salt water both...
