Lol. John, I'm not sure that's the way it was meant. At least, its not the way I meant it. I just like hearing about what's going on, and the fishing good or not so good. If I could be in the store a few mornings a week to catch up on the latest- well that would be just about ideal. Sadly I don't think anyone will ever pay me to fish. I don't have Facebook- I did once and the only thing it brought to my life was drama. So I don't know a thing about the pier rats fb page. It does seem like there were more people posting here a few years ago, and it was nice to hear from people on a more regular basis. That about sums it up for me.

Hello Everyone,
I think it’s very unfortunate that all the social media of the day are of a single demention. Print or a picture. You can’t hear the emotion in my thoughts. Sometimes our perception of someone’s thoughts in print can be misunderstood. It happens to me all the time. I have to pause sometimes and think what the other person is saying before I react. Case in point: As a newcomer to Gulf Shores and pier fishing I found this great forum as I was preparing for the first trip to the area. I joined the forum and was asking a lot of questions about baits. In pictucular I had never heard of an LY. I got several great explanations but I thought one guy was being sarcastic when when he posted a sketch of an LY preceded by “Since this is an informational and educational pier maybe we should have a placard with the scientific name and a picture of it”! I thought I was asking too many questions. After we got down there I found out the State calls it an Informational and Educational Pier. Thanks CarlF for your sincerity and sorry for my misguided “perception”! I don’t think any of all the friendly and helpful people at GSSP ever intended for anyone to be obligated to do anything. I sure do enjoy reading the forum everyday from up here in Kentucky and we are already planning for our next trip down this fall.

Thanks for your humor John g. Got me. Thought it was odd after Bill had suggested a certain retail outlet to get my tackle needs. An outlet where I spent over $500 on my first visit to GS. I was all ready to boycott on my next visit. Like I said...it’s all about my misguided perception. Now I know you guys are fun and helpful. Keep up the good stuff!

Big fan of this forum too! I've only been down to GSP for vacation 3 times but I still love coming on this forum to learn and live vicariously through those blessed enough to be able to go regularly. Most of the Facebook group for the pier seem like ads anyways...

I post often, mostly useless stuff unless I'm there and they are biting or there is a rumor that they are biting and I'm too busy fishing or sworn to secrecy. Then I get home and post pictures of the last trip a few weeks later.

People now of days are scared to post a report due to thinking swarms of fisherman will head down when the fish are biting. I though of a post that was on the old forum several years ago and thought I would throw it out there. All in fun because heck, who wants for people to see a report more than me.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
