The pier is owned and operated by the state and it is their responsibility to enforce the rules and deal with the nasty people. As much as some people would like to take these matters into their own hands, only thing you can do is report the problem and let the people that run the place " Do Their Job " Maybe send some pictures and letters to the Govenor !

oh see that is where you are wrong..the place is left to tend to its self because they will not hire anyone with the skills to handle the job.. at this point peer pressure is the only way to fix the problem..you got to know to what point you can take it so you will not get excorted from the pier but as long as you control yourself they will comply..management has heard so many complaints from the regs they can't really take'em serious anymore..peer pressure works,,seen it and done it..btw,,,bentley is a pos...

Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Steve,
I would have to agree on this particular situation. We might not see eye to eye on everything, but we can agree on one thing. It is no fun to fish on a pier covered in trash and rotting fish. The employees that are given the task of cleaning the pier are really given a task that is tough to accomplish in a week, much less one day. If the people who frequent the pier would take their time and find a garbage can rather than just throwing their garbage on the deck, the pier would be a much nicer place to fish.

Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Main reason the place isn't managed properly is probably cause it's the only pier ( and best pier ) on the Bama coast. If they had to compete for dollars and fishermen w/ other privately owned open to the public piers like Florida and South Carolina things might be different. So I guess your point about peer pressure makes sense and is about all ya can do. The pier slobs are probably the same people that think their dogs can poop on your yard and it's not their responsibility to clean it up. Sick, Nasty, People !!!

Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
I'm out there a lot 4-5days a week and the I will say that most of it comes from tourist and pier rats that spend the night/days there not saying names cuz everyone know who he is takes up a table and thinks its his home :spank: no locals cut up lys on the rail or squid on the rails like tourist do and as far at the trash cans i seen them so full that trash blows out of it :
We don't see this as much as the fall and winter months

Re: Pigs and Idiots Hall of Shame!
Steve, I don't think there really is a politically correct way of approaching this situation. I guess we just have to call it like we see it. The only feelings it will hurt are those who are guity parties anyhow.
For the last few weeks, I have seen a few staff members, along with some locals, walking around picking up trash at night and in the early mornings.
I have started taking a rope and snatch hook on occassion to remove line tangles off of the railings and light fixtures.
I was trying to gaff a king for someone last week and a huge wad of fishing line was left right at the end of the Octi on the ground, and was being kicked around like a tumble weed. The line got all tangled into my gaff and rope and I had to stop the process and cut the line out before I could get the King gaffed. The guy almost lost his fish to waves and pylons twice while waiting for the tangle to be removed.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
