Re: pier height
Okaloosa is hit and miss, with the fish, and a whole lot of flipper's that you have to deal with....one thing I never liked about that pier....usually good bait around (cig's)....my choice form there would be Navarre....30 minutes....but the cobia competition will be pretty good then too, I would think.

Just take a ladder and wade out to the 2nd sandbar. Then you have your own personal pier.

I would like to see that done!! and a ling off the pier is on my bucket list....that is way deep and long too, but will have to come by accident....maybe some luck, as my eyes aren't good and can't compete with the regulars ...plenty of good eating fish offshore any way to take home....just can't go everyday....like the pier
been hinting around about using a ladder on a friends son's new boat for the cobia....not getting to far oke: ;D

Re: pier height
Thanks for the tips.
I know about all the extra rods along the rail.
I don't mind the shoulder to shoulder for Kings.
Cobia competition will be something new for me.
Not much talk about Kings, is it too early for them.
My choices seem to be cobia, reds, and spanish from old reports.

Re: pier height
This year, I am going to sit in my kayak just past the 2nd sandbar and wait. Last Cobia I had a shot at was a couple years ago. I was out in the gulf, looked down and saw a huge cobia sitting under my kayak. I dropped the jig down, saw his massive head come out and look at it, then disappear under my kayak.
I out a piece of cigar minnow on it, and dropped it back down and watched him suck it in. Set the hook three times...knot on the jig and leader came untied. Never been so mad before.
The time before that, I was on a boat. A Cobia came up to us. He wouldnt hit the jig, so I put a piece of cigar minnow on the jig. I cast it out to him and a crab came up and grabbed the cigar minnow. The cobia then ate the crab that was holding on to the jig.
Needless to say, I have yet to land a Cobia

I know how frustrating it can be. I was out on a boata few years ago with some friends and one of em' hooks up on a cobia and didn't even know what it was.... :wall:...needless to say all I caught was snapper and triggers(nothin really wrong with that though :eat

Educate me a little bit if you will. What are good turbidity numbers? If you can check those stats and determine what the water looks like before you go, that would be VERY helpful!
