Sorry to hear! When the pier does open we'll make sure a collection of "nipple danglers" is delivered to you as part of your recovery program.

Even deer season ain't looking too good.

Now that I'm through pissin' and moanin', I'll be working with an orthopedist and taking good drugs---I don't intend it to be more than a setback. Look out, next year! Really looking forward to seeing my pier family.
Been missing you, my friend! Hope to see you on the pier real soon.
And hope & pray you heal even faster!

I miss my rail time with "Mister Wire" ;-)

I don't know if anybody's more eager for the pier to open up. That said, I'm skeptical of "middle of the month", Sept. 16th projections. I base my skepticism in part on the number of things that haven't been completed yet: Floor boards all screwed in place, electrical outlets in place and functioning, anti-bird mechanisms installed, benches placed and secured, the new fish cleaning station assembled and installed, the grinder system fully functional and tested, stairway lighting installed, bathrooms finished and cleaned out of building materials, drink machines re-installed, those long-range binocular thingees installed (one or more on the new raised visitor area), parking lot cleaned of debris, all 130-something signs in place and all pier concrete has to be finished. All of these things have to be done in less than two weeks and I just doubt that it's possible, even if weather cooperates.
I also base my skepticism on the fact that previous statements of target dates have not been even close to being accurate. Plus, there's the fact that they haven't even HIRED a new pier manager. You'd think that this would be THING ONE on their list of things to do!
To be sure - It's going to be awesome when the work does get done. It will be the incredible facility that they say it is. And while I hope that the pier will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 16, they'd have to work at a frenzied pace to get all the previously described work done, have the whole thing tested and State-approved for "occupancy", have the staff (with no manager) ready for large crowds and the pier ready to perform as not just a place for fishermen, but as an educational facility.

I guess I am out of the loop. What happened to Joe? He always seemed like a "straight shooter" to me. Lets all hope the new manager is good "people person" and good rule enforcer .

My understanding is that Joe was let go sometime during the summer without warning and no reason issued (which is always the case nowadays). I'm just surprised that they don't have a replacement already, given the dynamics of the upcoming re-opening. How the pier addresses the new rules, with regard to enforcement, will determine the degree of compliance. Where Joe did great was with his very regular walk-throughs and his attention to detail. I hope that the pier gets someone who will take charge and enforce the rules, as well.
