Like or thank me if your planning on being on the pier the first day it opens. Just trying to get a count of how crowded it's going to be.

For me, it depends. If they open up at 5 a.m. then I might. If they have some kind of ceremony where they don't open until 8 or 9, then I probably won't be there to fish for the opening. The day of the week matters, as well. It's likely to open on a weekend and I usually fish on weekdays. If it's raining or if there's just lightning -- that's a deal breaker, as well.

So I'd say that there's a less than a 50 percent chance that I'll be fishing on that first day. I did recently go back and review last year's fishing reports and September brought some mighty good fishing days. Slot reds, Spanish Mackerel, a few kings, spadefish and even a couple of runs of tripletail were featured in those beautifully written reports. Early Sept. (2019) was when we had a wave of blue crabs in the surf, if you remember. Whenever it happens (the opening) it will be good to see everyone again. The world just isn't right without the Gulf Shores Pier and soon it's going to be available and better than ever.

I'll most likely be there if something doesn't come up and if it's not a circus.
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Hi yes, and I'd like to reserve the S-SE corner of the Octi for 6am till 10 am. Thanks!

Well I will call this post "MONDAY MOANING" Forget Labor Day and put the pier opening on the back burner. There is simply just too many things still out there that have to be addressed before the pier opens. I can hear the "I told you so" already but opening in it's completed form is important. Sorry for the news but I will only post the truth, not fiction.

Things are at the point that I don't know when I'll get back to fishing the pier. The threat of Covid is huge in my mind, and, on top of that, I took a fall last week that left me with a broken back---compressed fracture of the L1 and its hard to find a position that doesn't hurt. Even deer season ain't looking too good.

Now that I'm through pissin' and moanin', I'll be working with an orthopedist and taking good drugs---I don't intend it to be more than a setback. Look out, next year! Really looking forward to seeing my pier family.

Sorry to hear that Haywire if you need anything just give us a shout. Maybe when and if the Pier finally opens we can catch a mess of fish and get them to you somehow.

I'm pretty sure that by the time the pier is ready to open, Haywire will be well on his way to recovery. It's going to be quite a while yet.
