Fine photos, Fin. Post them to one of the tv stations. Stay safe, and I'll see you after they turn the utilities back on and we can return to the island.

Kudos to the GSPark staff for taking decisive action to lessen the damage potential on the pier.
Lessons learned from 'Ida' three years ago :
Question: how many panels were removed?
nutha question: how long would it take to replace the removed panels?(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: pier closing at 5pm today
Ida or Ike ? I am confused. About three/four years ago I was down in early November when a storm came in and dropped from Hurricane status to Tropical Storm just before coming in. We had 20 foot surf and it knocked many of the panels out on the state pier. The flying panels were what seemed to do the most damage and the pier was closed for almost a month. Great to see the crew taking steps to prevent a repeat. It should mean the pier will be operational much quicker. GOOD JOB GUYS AND GALS. Drift appears to be more and more to the west but GS will still get a pounding and lots of rain.

Re: pier closing at 5pm today
Hurricane 'Ike' was early Sept 2008. It's passage across the central GoM as a Cat 4 hurricane produced waves which heavily damaged the end of the GSSPier then under construction and indirectly delayed the opening of the pier morethan 10 months! >

Re: pier closing at 5pm today
I thought this was an interesting graphic. ???
About this time Tuesday evening we should see the highest waves of this event (18'-20').
At least it will be occurring near the time of astronomical low tide.

Let's hope and pray the precautions taken will be enough and there will be minimal damage.(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: pier closing at 5pm today
We could fish around the damage caused by Ida. Just have to mod our cart to wheel barrel style.

Well, on the bright side, the pier will be clean when it reopens
Screw it. Let's ride.
