Sharks have been caught above the causeway on the Mobile & Blakely Rivers, so I am pretty sure they go into Perdido Bay....

I would recommend a Fin-Nor lt100 lethal over 9500of or 8000 Penn. Check Alan Hawks site for an in-depth review.
A serious fish whoop'in bit of kit, and a true bargain.

Are there sharks in Perdido Bay? Yes.
Are you likely to catch them in there? Anything can happen, but your odds are much better at the mouth of the Pass and elsewhere when shorebound or yakking.
What's in there? Most likely Bulls & Blacktips.
BTs will depend on temp, salinity and food.
If you want sharks, find a nice deserted stretch of beach in the early evening and yak baits out beyond the Bar.
Come back in and relax in your chair, have a nice cold beverage and be patient, odds are good you'll hook up when it gets dark.
Also, cast cut baits into the deep troughs, BT, Spinners and Bulls often feed in the surf.
G'luck!Ragnar Benson:

Thanks Chile Relleno, you seem to be the shark guru on here. I'll take your advice. I'm only bringing one serious rod/reel combo. So do you think my best potion would be past the 2nd bar?
DrumBum, thanks for that. The extra line capacity was the only reason I preferred the 8000 over the 3000 - 5000 series others suggested.

Let me know how the fishing was when you get back, I'm staying in the same house two weeks later. We usually rent a house on little lagoon in Gulf Shores and this will be the first time we have stayed anywhere else. I've never fished down there in June either, usually April or October. I have fished the bay up around the Lillian Bridge and did well on Specks in a boat. We usually do real well around the dock lights in the lagoon so definitely give the dock light a try a few nights.
Good Luck

I'll second the FN Lethal 100. It is an absolute tank. If you are looking for a big spinning reel for casting or short drops for bull Reds and sharks, this is an excellent option and well priced. This will pump out more drag than you could ever need from the beach, and have the line capacity to withstand just about any run you will encounter.
Two negatives - it's heavy and its big. Which means it's not for casting and holding all day, and it is a little more difficult for a lot of people to cast when compared to a smaller reel.

You guys have convinced me. Just ordered the lethal 100. Found one under 100 on ebay. Figure I'll put 300 yds of 50lb power pro with 150 yd 65lb mono top shot.

You want your braid heavier than your mono, you don't want to lose the expensive braid if the line breaks.
I would go 80/65 if primarily casting, or even 100/80 if yakking a lot.Ragnar Benson:

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
