Are those marsh flies the same things I call "yellow flies"? Make you swell and love to bite at joints when they can.

Bodebum, just hope you never come under attack from dog flies while you're holding an ice pick or fillet knife. It's odd how they only bite from your knees down. Mostly. I've had the little devils swarm my boat when I was 30 miles offshore, and there hadn't been a sign of them in the morning when I left.

They have ruined several photo sessions on the beach for me. No matter how much Deet you spray on the kids, the flies will still light and aggravate them. For some reason, they love my scaly old legs, too. They will leave from biting a tender three year-old girl child to attack me. Shows questionable taste.

Could be a preference for aged meat; I got that.

Y'all are edumacating me on fly nomenclature. I'm going to kill or catch some critters next week and post pics of them when I get back home to my wi-fi. Then somebody can enlighten me.

A friend who gets down there much more than me does call some of the worst flies "yellow flies", and they do have yellow bodies - nasty critters.

My fly repellant of last resort is Raid. I'm sure it's probably a health risk to spray it on my legs, but sometimes I just don't care.
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.
