Rich, if you dont mind me asking, what type of run ins did you see?Was it a shhouting match, a fist fight, somebody pull a knife or get thrown over the rail?
I have fished both a pretty good bit, i've never seen any thing too bad happen

No sir, don't mind at all. I've seen quite a few shouting matches involving other people where there were threats of violence and invitations to fight, but I haven't personally seen it escalate to actual violence other than a shove or a line cutting or an "in your face" kind of thing. However, when two people are angry, shouting, cussing, and one has a hand in a pocket threatening another with death; it's hard for me to categorize that as non-violent. Alcohol was involved in some of those, although I can't say whether on the pier or in the parking lot. And, as Bubba said, most of those I witnessed were at Gulf Shores. But the worst incidents I was personally involved in were at Florida piers, and all three involved people who had been drinking. Granted, all I got was a cussing. But when I apologize for a "no foul" kind of mistake on my part and a drunk keeps cussing and ranting until I give up and leave the pier over nothing, then his right to drink has infringed on my right to fish. He would be back the next day, when for me it might be next month or next year.
So, like you say Peaches, it wasn't "too bad." And it is readily admitted that selling alcohol in the pavilion probably wouldn't have much effect on anything discussed.

Re: No Beer on the PIer
I can deal with most anything, glad it didn't pass, but if it did ....oh well....the pier is big enough I can just move on....no need to ruin my time there over this..... I try and be passive to some extent :boohoo:.

Re: No Beer on the PIer
That is due to the fact that the State Pier is too tolerant of googans on the end off the pier. The Florida piers make it more difficult for a googan to fish among the in the first place, therefore things don't build to a head. That and the fact that they have far fewer googans that are wanting to become Zane Grey on their first time fishing in the ''ocean''.
[/quote]please explain the too tolerant of "googans" on the end does a man that fishes alt on the pier have more rights than someone just getting started?[/SIGPIC]

^^^ I think he just means that GSPP is more tolerant of people with no idea how to snobble/free line come right out to the end and start casting, than the panhandle piers. I can also attest to this fishing those piers. Even at Pcola, they didnt like me out there my first time until I had been throwing a cig for a couple of hours on a windy day with no crossed lines. Then they warmed up to me.
To the East, you hang out on the sides of the octi or north of the octi till you figure out what you are doing.
He didnt mean anything insulting by it - he was just pointing out the difference between us and the panhandle. That statement could probably be scientifically proven to be accurate.

Shut up googan! !
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Thanks for clarifying Bubba. I have said before that the GSSP is googan friendly to a fault. I've come to recognize and accept that fact. That leaves me with only two viable options, avoidance or help educate. I opt for the later and it sure helps if all involved are clear headed, hoping to have a good time and friendly. If anyone is offended by the wrd googan, get over it already. It isn't necessarily a derogatory label and definitely not a permanent one if you are willing to learn.
