That just plays into the "so good it is banned in BASS tournaments" ad theme.

Re: the nightmare of the summer
You guys better watch out! Here are my plans: Coming down with the rod below with about a 5 or 6 ounce weight, chunking it out as far as I can, then clipping an Alabama rig on and let it slide down the line and setting the pole up then go back down towards the bathrooms and fishing with another pole until I hear someone shouting!!! LOL

We can joke, but the 5-Gotcha Alabama Rig is GOING to be a reality this summer.
Just a matter of time before someone gets hurt, and lots of fish die tragically with these things wrapped around their bodies, and larger predators choking on them thereafter.
Just plain awful. Don't be tempted by the googanologists! Steer clear of the fatally named "Alabama Rig."
VG, the five way gotchas was a joke. At $4 a piece and $30 for the rig, you would be throwing around $50 bucks plus tax on every cast -- too expensive for most people I think. All I've ever heard anybody using on the rigs were swimbaits. Gotchas get fouled up throwing one -- I can't imagine five.
As far as tangling other fish is concerned, I don't see how this rig with swimbaits would be any more of a threat than throwing the big artificial baits with three treble hooks. Ditto on the danger to other people.
Googanologist? Doesn't that refer to a person who studies googans?oke1: Maybe "googans and their googanism" would be better? Just a thought....
I doubt I'll be throwing the alabama rig on the pier, don't own one and don't plan on buying one. I can't imagine how much work that would be in a day's fishing. But if I'm crappie fishing catching nothing and the guy with me is catching them with the alabama rig.....well, you know......
Oh, I know it was a joke. We say many a thing in jest--that was one of my "worst case scenario" sarcasms. Also, based on the $100 cast nets I see stuck on substrate along jetties and pilings, etc, you'd be surprised what people are willing to risk.
We cleaned a King last summer that had 4 lures in its belly. I heard tale there was another with even more found internally. On a couple of the gotchas found, the hooks were nearly digested (smooth to the touch)--indicating less fish die from lures than we'd think from swallowing lures. Umbrella rigs, however, have virtually no way of being digested due to how they are designed. People will snag on the pilings as well, cause more snagups for single hook fishermen in search of sheepshead, etc. Either way, I view it as a danger if used in proximity of the pier.
A googanologist is a self-proclaimed scientist devoted to and producing results in googanology through the study of failed fishing techniques through the use of googanism and sub-par methods. Or something like that!oke:
I dunno, whether it catches fish or not isn't really the point. I'd consider it cheating in some ways... and more trouble than it is worth. Either way, I doubt I will ever use one.

Been kinda scared of trying to use it since YOU brought it to me. Afraid I might poke the neighbors eye out with it!!Dealing with some REEL issues in your life? The DOC will see you now!

Glad we got that straight. I knew I should have looked on Wikipedia.
I visited with a good friend last night who is one of the top pros on the FLW tour. He said he hopes they ban it everywhere, not just in tournaments, because, "Anybody can go out with those and catch 15 or 20 bass a day, and the people who kill and eat them will clean all the lakes out."
Kind of like what Duck said, I don't know if those kind of comments will discourage people from buying them or make them say, "I've got to get me one of those."

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
