Thank you very much Mr. Fishntime!! I keep hearing if the reds come through you can catch em on anything but I've not been lucky enough time that happening yet. Maybe this will be my month. Nonetheless, thanks again !!

we are heading down next week. Are there any people catching flounder? And another thing , can bull minnows be caught in the bays with traps during this month? We've never been down there in the fall. Any info on what fish are usually active this time of year would be sweet. My 12 year old son is chomping at the bit to catch some flounder !! Thanks in advance!!

Jared---I don't want to rain on your parade, but----a long, long time ago, I got into charter fishig because I absolutely loved fishing in salt water. Bought my own boat and everything. I had a great time for a few years, but it got to be sort of a job after while. One day, I happened to hear a woman in the party talking, and she referred to me as a "boat driver." Pissed me off, because I was a CAPTAIN, by doggies, but after I thought about it I realized that I wasn't fishing any more and really hadn't done for years---all I did was drive that boat around the Gulf and fix it when it broke. After I got out of the business it was nearly 20 years before I started enjoying fishing again, and that was from the beach and the pier, not from a boat. Kind of ruined it for myself. It was sort of like getting a job in the cookie factory because you love cookies---after a while you never want to see another cookie.

I guess what I'm trying to say is to examine this choice very carefully before commiting. There may be another job you can take that would still let you fish as much as you want to---there's a big difference in fishing when you want to and fishing because you have to.

It wouldn't have made any difference if somebody had told me this when I was making my choice to run charters---I'd have done it anyhow, but I wanted to pass my experience along to you---just to think about.

I was on the pier last fall when a school of big reds visited. Three casts with a chrome rattle trap produce three large (15 t0 20 lb) bull reds. I released all three because I prefer the slot reds for the dinner table. I am an old man and after that hour of exercise I put up that rod and picked up my small rod and turned my focus back to the nice spade fish hanging around the pilings. If you are there when a school comes in the reds will usually hit almost anything.

No I definitely appreciate your input and experience. I've already been down a similar path with golf. Long story but I loved the game. And was good at it. Real good. Decided to take a PGA teaching professional job and like you said, it became more of a job than a passion. I think this is a conversation we should have over coffee at the pier while we wet our lines. You ok with that ??
