Poppa---Lots of good advice above. I'd suggest you go by J&M Tackle in Orange Beach and tell the what you want to do and how much you want to spend and they'll set you right up. I don't own stock in them, it's just that they are very knowledgeable and helpful folks and their prices are competitive with anybody's. We all look forward to meeting you.
Nice catch on the big cat, by the way.

we bought 3 of the penn fierce combos($95) that were suggested in another thread on this site. all 3 were put to the test and performed flawlessly.

yes....J&M is your best choice if you are going to buy....my first trip years ago, I brought some bigger gear(kinda for cat fishing) the spanish were in full force....by the end of the day my arm was like a wet noodle from casting & catching.....that was the last that gear made the trip.....as I learn every trip....but for me back then these forums weren't around then....so you are getting educated before the many trips I made,.....learning everyone.....and still learning.....welcome and have fun when you come to gulf shores....you will get hooked for the salt water fishing.....and the fall is a great time to go!!!! :fishing: :headbang:
