Gov. said he would have the staff review and probably sign after lunch today.

Impact of the 5.5% "transfer" on DCNR will take a little while to determine, but you can be assured the Division Chiefs are figuring out how to have the least impact on operations.
I have no inside information what so ever at this point, but from what I have heard since last Spring, I don't see how Parks will avoid closing at least a few of the less solvent parks. I imagine there will be an announcement within the next two weeks.

TBT: 11 years ago this week we were just getting a look at the catastrophic damage left behind by Hurricane Ivan.
Among the victims was the Gulf State Park Pier.
It would be 58 months (and $16 million) later before the current pier could be constructed 200' to the east and opened.
If a similar storm were to strike today would the pier be repaired or rebuilt considering the current economic climate in the state?
Tell your elected state representatives to keep their hands out of the DCNR budget!

Illinois' governor is planning to sell the state museums and their contents. We've already sold off the toll roads. Can your parks be far behind? I figure your Pier would make a nice dock for the commercial net fleet, once you shorten it a bit to aid unloading.

I'd like to know if there is any legal remedy to stop this, and this may be a stupid question but what happened to the BP money?

Which BP money and what do you want to spend it on???
Everyone thinks that BP money is like a blank check that can be spent on anything & everything.
It all has restrictions and none of it other than the Financial Damages Civil Suit settlement funds can be spent on existing operational budgets. But the agreement in principle to settle that was in the papers months back is at least 6 months to a year from becoming reality, if it holds up.
So BP money is not the answer, properly funding government with a modern updated tax code is.

And any talk about "selling" parks is just that, talk, not backed up with any basis in reality.

The enviro-warriors tried to keep any BP money from being spent on the pier construction/completion at all. I don't know if all the legal action has been quashed yet. We may not want to open that can of worms.
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.
