    Easiest thing:

    Visit J and M
    or
Go to the octi, watch, talk to the guys catching Kings and ask them to help you out.

I'm using 27lb single strand, small swivel, 16lb main line and a 4x treble. Free line a Ly.

Get some 20 to 30 pound seven strand depending on water with a number 4 or 2 treble hook and a swivel. Make your leader about a 2 feet long and tie a overhand knot and tighten your knot and cut off excess wire. That's all you need to catch a king.

That's how I do it, except I substitute the LY for a Cig.

in that case a rod and reel would also be helpful.

    Re: kings

Stop by some time and I will show you how to rig.The best advise I can give you is watch the people that catching fish:what bait and what size bait are they using? In the case of cigs, how fast are they working the bait? How long are they letting the bait sink before working it?Are the fish out far or in close? How are they hooking the bait? What direction are they casting? These are a few of the things to look for.For kings I like to fish dead bait over live, not because it's a better method but it's more fun.The first thing I want to know is what direction the current and wind is going.Lets say there is a slight east breeze with the current going east to west(Perfect conditions)if standing at the end I will cast 10 or 11 o'clock depending on how strong the wind and current is and work my bait with the help of the current.Another thing,if there are people fishing both dead and live baits, fish live baits the down current side of the pier and dead baits up current to avoid tangles.Sorry if this is hard to understand,I sucked at English in school.

    Re: kings

Pretty much any live bait you can catch at the pier. Lys, sardines, Spanish, bluefish, so forth. Get you a bait ribbon and a sabiki to catch the bait hanging around the pier.

That's another one of those watch and see what/where everyone else is getting bait. I'd have cigs on hand cause bait disappears from time to time. Especially when you need it the most.
