You've got some great replies. here's my input:
It is required to have on the kayak, but I always wear mine unless I'm in the back creeks or tied to a pier. You never know when you'll actually need it and being a good swimmer doesn't matter if you are knocked unconscious if another vessel was to hit you or you were to turn over and hit a rock or submerged debris.
Caught these for dinner today drifting deeper water in a kayak with live shrimp on a popping cork. I release two others and a lady fish and a few hardheads.

Try an inflatable or a one with mesh. They are a lot more comfortable and not so damn hot in the summer.

When I had my kayak, I had a whistle, signal device(mirror), and an air horn. You can't be too careful out there.

I just didn't use it as much as I would have liked to. I'll get another one day. Prob a Wilderness Systems or a Malibu.

I have a perception sport pescadore.. It's great for the price
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
