Thread: Kastking Braided Line

Ordered the 40 to put on my Fin Nor Lt80. No luck on any big fish yet but I did some unofficial testing and it picked up a 40lb weight without breaking so it's way better that the other knockoff braid that I have tried. Here's a youtube review of Kastking vs Powerpro. Pretty interesting.

I am lining two more new rigs this week. After watching and reading tons of reviews, including the video above, I ordered a spool of the blue KastKing a few days back. I now have a spool of 832 and a spool of KastKing sitting on my desk. I also set up another new rig with PP super slick 8 last week. I'll report back if there seem to be any perceivable differences once they get used.

Not all rods were fitted with the modern ceramic guides. One thing for sure I have seen: the kastking braided line gave my friend a cut in his palm (without even tying hard) after he unknowingly tried to pull my snaged line. I swear to that. But with Jerry Brown, no sir no cut palms all well and good. After that, I threw my excess spool of line straight out to trash.

And with regards to testing; the actors should have done the testing on individual lines using a known calibrated spring scale only. Do it the right way to make it more convincing.

Braid cuts are a known evil,( nature of the beast) take precautions. Personal braid testing (for knots) should only be done with a strain gauge (aka digital fish scale). Not pretty what happens to spring scales when the braid breaks (parts go a'fly'in). I need to find a digi scale with max-hold-memory, anybody know a source or brand?

I doubt anyone can get close to break strain through knots, that is listed on package.

Got my order today. Shipping apparently messed up, because I got two 1094yrd spools for the price of one. I'll chalk it up as good advertising since I've been pointing several people their way.

Hhmmmm.... I got some today too. Ordered some 50 (1000m) to put on a lethal 100 that I currently have 525yds of a combo of 300yds SW stealth on bottom with PP on top (both 50#). Didn't really look to hard at the ad on ebay. Wow...package says dia. @.40mm....I measured .46mm which is the dia. of Power Pro 100#. Don't think I'll put it on the LT100. They have a huge gap (dia.) between their 40&50# (not that I'm confident in their sizing anymore).

Yeah the size 30 isn't .25 as advertised either. I somewhat knew about the sizing, as I had read several reviews about that. I ended up only getting about 240yards on my reel and was hoping for 300ish. Still, I can't complain for what I'll be using it for.

I wasn't able to get much more than 300yds of 65# Powerpro on my Fin Nor Lethal 100. Is the difference down to 50# really 200yds worth?

What reel are you putting the 30 on?

As to the lt100, the 50 stealth was kinda fat for 50. The 50pp was older ( before the 40# came to market) and measured .013, the new stuff is .014. I think it was 290 and 235yds respectively with a doubled uni connection. Just trying to get rid of that knot. I could get a full spool (320yds) of the older PP on a 6500 ABU put on tight (slightly overfilled)and easily on a 4500b baitrunner. This KK 50# is visibly fatter than 65# PP.

Ill be curious to see how much I can fit on my larger reels. I doubt I'll be able to use it for big fish if it's that much larger than the 65# I've been using. Will still work for lures and whatnot, as long as it casts well.

I'll be putting the KastKing blue 30# on an ABF55B tomorrow. I put Suffix 832 on an Okuma Trio-s 30 today. I don't think that I am going to like the 832. Up until now, all I've had to compare with is some 50# Spiderwire and some 20# PP Slick 8. The 832 is much rougher than the others. It causes considerable friction and I am concerned about the guides, even though they claim to be designed for braid. I also believe that the advertised diameter is false. My reel should have taken almost all of the spool, save about 30 yards. It seems like I have enough line left on the spool to line a typical freshwater rig.

I am afraid that the KastKing might be like the 832, as I read that the diameter runs large. If so, I'm going to go with PP, preferably the slick 8, when I have to reline. So far, it casts and retrieves like silk.

I did see several tests where the KK beat the PP (lol) in breaking strength, but I'm of the opinion that I'd rather get the fish on the line first, then worry about it breaking. I think the PP will outshine the others in this department, via casting performance and action with artificials.
