...... figure the jigs would be the safest for all around....

    Nice looking work!
Oddly as bad a rap as Gotchas get, THE worst exibition of accidental hookings I've ever witnessed was at the old GSPPier on 'Bloody' Palm Sunday 1981.
That was part of the legendary "thousand jig weekend" when the pierhouse sold 1000 spanish jigs. ???
EVERYBODY who could cast halfway straight and more than 10 yards caught spanish all weekend.
But no fewer than 5 people were hooked using white jigs that day.
It was CARAZY out there. I even had my hat snatched off by an errant jig.
Most were hooks in the hand, but one was an old guy who had a jig dangling from the loose skin under his chin. (I still cringe thinking of it)

Moral of the story: those single hooks are SHARP too!

Back on topic: what kind of action do those banana jigs have compared to the bullet head?
    [/quote]

    thanks for the kind word
....took a little while to figure out how to hold and paint them without painting the hooks too....learning..... never did this before now....and going to be fun trying to tie them, never doing that before either

good story #R.....I got this mold because friends down there use this style for flounder in the bay....so hoping it will double for a few spanish too for the kids...I have a few bullet jigs but I think more for the pomps ....I remember when the spanish are thick on the old pier..... I would just rip a jig along the surface or just below and they would hammer it....so who knows about these.....wishing for the best, but I will be leaving a lot I made with my friends for the flounder(100 -3/4 oz)....... like the butterfly jigs I made for the offshore fish......which I already sent a box to them, with lead weights too.(55lbs worth)

I got a treble hook buried in my thumb from a little catfish shaking around, then started one of the other hooks on the treble too, I finally got the hook off the split ring...but I had no side cuts....I was with my wife and daughter(maybe 9) I got the 2nd hook out but no way for the first one...seen a fishing show a few weeks before that when they get this bad you need to cut them and push them through....went to the bank where there was a garage by the bait shop, they had side cuts but the guys there didn't really have the stomach for it either, and was telling me to go to the hospital....I talked one guy just to put his fingers on both sides where we could see the hook trying to come through and put pressure, I'll do the rest....punched the hook through and out it came....now I have 2 pairs of pliers on the boat, one for the fishes mouth and the other for the hook removal....and a pair of side cuts too....a lesson learned for sure by me....and to this day my daughter that is now 25 still will not go fishing because of that incident .....sorry for soooo long

I use white, chartreuse, and pink..in that order. Nice looking jigs by the way. On the subject of Gotchas, its not the lure-its the inexperienced person wielding it. ??? They never seem to look behind them when they cast haha.

How many oz. are those jig heads/hook size???

I like fishing a gotcha and will for spanish....but for the kids...well.... 1 hook is safer then 6 on the gotcha's.....these are 3/4 oz and 1oz....hook size is 4/0 & 5/0 ....but the 4/0 works in the 1oz too....almost to big(for spanish??), but the next mold smaller, the 1/2 oz uses the 4/0 hook too, I don't have that mold....but more then likely the 1/2 oz would use a 3/0 hook....
I actually just ruined these putting a clear coat on them, it started removing the epoxy white paint...so I clean them all up and put the white back on...no more of that clear coat....a friend said he uses clear finger nail polish, and it doesn't yellow on him....that is one of the guys I fish with down there and are leaving these with..... when I leave along with a couple others too

    Re: jig head colors???

    That's another thing about jigs.
If spanish (or blues) are even remotely in the formula the winding threads need a coat of epoxy to protect them from those teeth (at least for a while).

I recall during the "1000 jig weekend" the number of 'naked' jigheads folks would leave on the rail or near the garbage can was incredible. ???
I was like "Hey, I'll take that if you don't want it." Picked up over two dozen one day. :yippee:
I would epoxy on a two inch piece of McDonald Straw and have a brand new jig in two minutes ;-)

    :fishing:

    Re: jig head colors???

There was an older gentlemen on the Pensacola pier that was tearing up BIG spanish, that I was fishing beside, loaning him fluorocarbon leader material and NO one else was catching them...I would see them but NO.... just him, he was using a white hair ball jig he made and kep loosing the hair on it but they still were hitting it....he was filling a cooler...a local there with his brother....maybe Mr. Harley....I would see pictures on the old forum....I know he is well known on the piers...and a real nice man
