From the Cleveland area. Thanks for the welcome. I am hoping we never go back to Myrtle. It sounds like the fishing is better in GS. I know J&M will be getting a lot of my vacation money. lol.

Hello, this is Hunter, John's son. My dad asked me to write a response to this thread because he didn't know how to put it in writing, and there are two things that he wants to say. First of all, as to why it started in the first place, he (and everyone else involved at J&M) realize that, when compared to our store, our website is lackluster. This has been a common topic that has begun to come up and we are trying to find a way to fix it. Secondly, and more importantly, he wants to thank everyone who has come to the defense of the store when compared to the website with their kind words, pictures, and various stories that help portray what J&M strives to be; a place of good product and service in a homey, family-friendly environment.
My Dad also wanted to give special thanks to Bob(Finchaser) for posting the many pictures of J&M as a picture really is worth a thousand words.

'nuff said.... to me the website is a non issue, good people and as good a selection of all things fishing as you're likely to find. It would be a huge pain in the rump to have to run pillar to post rounding up different items, live bait, ice, fuel etc. And John is on the pier most mornings so he knows what is going on.
A big "Thank You" from me.

Thanks Hunter. Your dad has never had trouble putting things into words from my point of view. He's been a great people person and puts good people in the shop to help others. That's why he's been so successful. Now I see you're following in his footsteps. Keep it up and tell your dad thanks from all his pier family.

I have to say that J&M let my wife down big time on her first ever visit there. J&M and Frith's were my old go to spots way back when I was single. October of '91, we were on our honeymoon. I had married a fisherwoman, who owned her own tackle box, rods, Coleman stove, you name it. Carolyn was freshwater experienced, and our honeymoon was to let her get some salt water fishing experience. First stop was J&M to get my Penn's spooled with new line. Carolyn brought in her Zebco 33SS. The old store had wood floors and a table near the front for coffee and truthtelling. One of the gentleman at the table stood up when we came in, and said" Need new line?" I told him yes, and what I needed. Carolyn held out her Zebco to him. He took a step back and looked from her reel up to her face and said "M'am, we don't touch pushbuttons." I felt sorry for her, and said it would be ok, we had plenty of rods. 5 minutes later she came up to me and said" I'm pissed. I want a new outfit!" She is still using that Penn 450SS. She upgraded the rod (at J&M's) two years ago.

J&M, John, Hunter,, I started this thread being on a fact finding mission. I have never been to GS or J&M before and the family has a vacation trip planned in July to GS and I intend on doing a little surf fishing. I was looking for a one stop and shop to pick up supplies and to find out what I needed to pack or wait until I got there to buy.
I had noticed all of the positive comments on the forum about J&M so I went to your web site to checkout your inventory. After seeing a limited inventory, I was merely asking the locals if there was more in the store than on the web site. I too, would also like the thank Finchaser for the pictures that he posted, his pictures answered all of my questions. The selection looks great and I am sure I will find all that I need in your store.
My apologies if my thread was misunderstood, I was in no way criticizing your business. Based on Finchaser's photos and positive comments by others, J&M is the place.Last edited by witler; 05-20-2016 at 09:44 AM.

Bodebum...In 1991...if someone got up from the table...and told your wife we don't touch push buttons....
It may not have been an employee!! In those years that table was staffed at times by 2 of the most likeable old charterboat captains that the world has ever known!!
Frank Broz or Gloyice Ard...and not knowing your wife I will tell you this....they would drop any conversation about fish to flirt...especially Gloyice!!
Great memories of those two!
Can I get an AMEN?

Witler, you owe no apology at all. Our web site is mainly for selling offshore tackle, not showing people the reason they should come by when in town. Trust me,your post has been seen by several of our key people and like my son said,it needs to be fixed. Bodebum, sorry about your brides reel, sounds like something I would have said back in the day. I grit my teeth every time I see somebody come in with a closed face reel because it's impossible to spool them with out the line getting twisted up. Jay,you get a big Amen from me on those two characrers, they helped get me to where I am today. Helping carry them to their final resting place was two of the most difficult days of my life.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
