WHY SHOP J&M? RECENT STORY: Had a rod I'd bought there a couple of years ago and the butt was a little long for working a lure. Took it in and told John (owner) my problem. He asked how much too long it was, and when I was a little bit vague, he dragged out a Yeti cooler, had me stand on it and re-create my retrieve and determined how much to shorten the butt. He put in in the vise, whacked it off, then and there, replaced the butt cap and wished me luck. No charge. Try getting THAT kind of service at WalMart.

After reading this forum off and on, I seen where it was recommended to go to J&M for fishing needs. they were right. Never met a more courteous and helpful group. I bypass Bass Pro and Walmart if at all possible. My first stop when I come down is at J&M.
    Thanks to all for sharing.

Customer service at it's finest is an under statement compared to any where else I have shopped in my travels......and not just down there

I sometimes leave the store with less then I arrived with......seams they like deer jerky

Haywire, That is the type of customer service that builds a business with repeat customers and new customers thru word of mouth. I will be making my first ever trip to GS in July, can't wait, after reading all of the positive reviews about J&M, I am torn between going to the beach first or to J&M's. Also another thing that I read into your post, aside from the customer service at J&M vs Walmart, I don't think you will find the quality rod at Walmart that you will find at J&M.

I was down there last week with my dad for his first visit.
He was not sure why J&M had to be my first stop when we got to town and why I waited to get there to spool my reels and pick up some extra tackle and our bait.
I am only there a couple weeks a year but my dad was impressed that John would call me by my name when I walked in and how quick the employees were to help find what we needed.
Now he knows that there is no reason to go to another store.
One trip there and you will realize why so many people on the Forum speak so high of them and recommend them over anyone else.

Thank you for the info. I will be there in July and shopping at J&M. I had gone to Myrtle Beach the last 6 years and there is a great bait shop there that I was very loyal to. It will be J&M this year.
