IMHO, best idea I've heard. So simple, it evaded me. Thanks, John.

Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Abrasion resistance is a huge advantage in favor mono. If a large fish runs under the pier, braid will fail almost instantly if it barely touches a piling. With mono it may fail also, but many times there is a chance of still landing your fish.

Mono stretches were braid doesn't. I won't go in to all the details of why, but will say that I personally feel that stretch is an advantage when fighting fish.

Mono is also generally larger in diameter than braid. Larger diameter line creates more drag in the water. Drag which is pressure that the fish has to deal with and you never feel. Think of it as free pressure you're putting on the fish.

Fishing braid in a crowded situation is just down right rude. We won't hate you, but we may not have anything but bad things to say about you and depending on who it is talking about you, it may be behind your back or in your face. Making friends is far better than making enemies, so why not go with the flow and use mono?

Use braid for throwing plugs If you don't want to loose them. Braid Is good If you know how to use it. If anyone gives you crap and you are honestly trying to look out for others and being respectful, just remember it is a public pier so go to the pier house and let them take care of it. :fishing:

I don't hate you.... I still use Ande. Thats what they told me to put on when I was 7. I call it ole school but I guess its because I don't know what else to use. So I guess the next time I am in J&M, I might get John to school me in the new stuff. Heck I might be sporting some braid this season. LOL

You know the pros and cons??? Why do people need to convince you to use or not to use it? If you've been on the pier since the 80's, you should have some kind of idea how to pier fish right? And that long pier fishing and you don't have a setup specifically rigged for the pier?

thats right lisa. we did what the old salts told us to do. I will probly never stop using ande unless they quit making it. i myself just dnt understand spending 20 bux on one spool of line when most of the people out there change out their line every year anyway. i would much rather spend 9 bux on two 706's worth of ande.
