Best of luck John K
I still love it here in Chicago but GS is where I would love to retire
Kind of used to the minus temperatures here this winter
Before long you will be complaining when it is 40 degrees down there - I would love to be in that position

Thanks 1000 miles way. It has been in the makings for a few years. We need to break the cycle of thinking we need to live somewhere just because our families have lived their for generations. Our kids are young and have no ties except friends and this is the best time for us to make the move. If we wait and my kids settle in and have their own kids in the Chicago land area. My wife will never leave. That just can't happen.
Besides you can't beat the fishing down their right.

Not only is the saltwater fishing excellent but you are within a couple of hours of some pretty decent freshwater fishing, whitetail deer, turkey, feral hog, and small game hunting. Our deer don't weigh 300lbs or have 180" racks but they are plentiful and you can hunt them from October 15th through January 31st statewide and til February in a few counties. Waterfowl hunting can be fantastic too. We talk funny-get used to it. You will hear things like "jeet chet? nawd you", "fixing to", "hey y'all watchiss". Sweet tea is like fine wine. Most everyone who is legally able to carries a gun. We will fry anything. Y'all is proper for "you all". Pick a side-Alabama or Auburn. There's a church on every street corner. Buy a house with good air conditioning.

Yes we have had some good luck hunting for turkey and deer over the years. Need to get one of them hogs for the smoker. Family has a couple hundred acres up in Eufaula with a nice cabin. That's where we go spring breaks and Thanksgiving. From their we would come down to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for a few days. The challenge will be deciphering some of the words.
My son loves duck hunting so the Mobile Delta will be his new home. It shouldn't take long to feel at home. Thanks

Honestly I have never thought about relocating. However, reading this thread and knowing the love I have for the outdoors, the thought of great fishing, duck hunting, turkey hunting, hog hunting and hell, just a cool way of life, might be re-thinking the master plan. Might just sell the farm, slap the money on the barrel head and take up in Gulf Shores! How good are the schools down there? I have a 4 and 9 year old ! Damn fine way to bring up some kids in the outdoors! And the wife looks pretty good in a bikini!

From what we have read the schools are above average in the state and U.S. The highest ranked towns are, Fairhope, Daphne, Orange Beach, and Gulf Shores. Most of the other towns are around a national average.
We just like being outside, the fresh air, and being around pleasant people. Not saying I can't go out up here, But it would be nice not having to put on every piece of clothing you own just to take out the garbage.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
