"I'm asking about how the city/state, whoever is making the rules up, views the situation, either as a result of direct observation, or solicited/unsolicited input, or other matters. Thanks in advance for any info."
In my opinion they view it with complete indifference.

I would hope if a parking fee were ever initiated, that it would not only make the exception for those that pay the daily $9.00 fee, but those like myself that purchase the annual pass as well.

I could see the annual pass holders being given a window sticker/decal to cover them for the year. That way everywhere you drove you would be silently advertising for the park.

I found the survey too narrow. I tried to plant the idea of expanding the park to cover Perdido Pass for handicap fishing access.

The final Community Meeting: Open House No. 3 will showcase a draft master plan for Gulf State Park based on feedback received during the previous open houses and online survey.
Master Plan: Open House #3
Thursday, July 23, 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Gulf Shores Activity Center (260 Clubhouse Drive, Gulf Shores, AL 36542)
Link to results of the survey (compiled in late May): http://gulfstateparkproject.ua.edu/w...arkResults.pdf
You may not like what you read though, only 4% of the 2500 respondents mentioned fishing as their reason for visiting the Gulf State Park!
Of those however, most IDed the Gulf State Park Pier (or nearby beaches) as their primary fishing location. (page 26)

Why is that parking lot free when the other state park lots are pay to park? I might be getting lots confused but I'm pretty confidant the other parking areas were charging.

I have been staying at the four seasons for the past few falls and fish that pier. It also has plenty of sharks even though the water is much shallower than the state pier. With my limited walking ability and the option of leaving most of my tackle on the pier over night it is much easier for me to fish there. Last year we had a particularly heavy infestation of sharks in mid October and a weekend day had a lot of surfboarders close by. We warned them about the sharks swimming under them but most of them just ignored the warning. One of the sharks that stayed around for a few days was a very large hammerhead, probably close to 10 feet. I saw him follow a surfboard for about 40 yards one day.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
