Tackle Direct is where I have ordered all my shark rods. I'm a huge fan of the Penn rods for sharking, the Mariner standup rods are the ticket for my 6/0 HLW and 9/0 reels for less than $100 delivered to my door.

It's a no go in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach proper. You can fish the Ft. Morgan state park beach but they lock the gates at 5:30 and don't play around. Mobile Street during daylight hours. Otherwise, there is a lack of public beach access that makes it difficult unless you are renting out there or know someone who will allow you to park and access the beach on that end of the peninsula. It can so make for a LONG kayak drag. Parking at Grant Street overnight can be a risky venture with the washed out road and isolated/unlit area it sits in. I know two people whose cars have been vandalized parking there and I don't do it anymore.

Another close option are the many beaches in Pensacola that are open to shark fishing around the clock with good parking and access. There is a strong and growing land based shark fishing community in the Pensacola/Gulf Breeze/Navarre area. There have been some nights that I've looked down the beach on Ft. Pickens and seen more than a dozen people shark fishing. A Florida nonresident license it required but opens up A LOT of shark fishing/surf fishing real estate within a short drive.

ok thanks i think ill try to go down to pensacola and see I'm pretty sure I've got all the gear: penn special senator 6/0 with 50 pound line with an ocean master stand up rod. would that do for shark fishin

Just tonight I had to make up my mind between the Penn Penn International VS5010TS60 6’0”, and the Penn Ally ALLBW50100C66 6'6".
Both are 50-100# rods, slicks butts and IIRC, the same reel seat. The Ally has the Fuji LR guides.
$159.99 vs $119.99 from tackledirect.com.
I have the Ally on it's way to me, chose to save the $40.00.
Going to put my 9/0 on it for now, 12/0 when I pick one up.

That 14/0 deserves a rod built for it.

Landed my 8' Scalloped Hammer on a 6/0 on a Master, Custom Striker 6', with 50# main and 80# topshot.

For beach shark fishing I like a long rod. I never used under a 8ft rod. Most were 9-10ft. The extra length helps keep your line out of the waves and when in a long fight that extra length really helps out on the back. Make sure your rod has a gimble because you'll need a fighting belt. As far as roller guides you really dont need them. They just help with line stress. I like my first guide and tip to have rollers but the rest turbo guides. Just my .02
