Re: Crabbing
Late summer in western Nebraska in certain irrigation canals you can literally scoop up crawdads by the bucketful. They are hard shelled but very good eating coming out of that cold clear water that I fly fish for trout in as well . Once while working at a power plant project we had a lot of Leeeewsiana boys on site . I supplied them with 3 coolers full of bugs. That is where I learned to cook them.

Re: Crabbing
Fitty years in Louziana. PNG is the only one on here I'd fear in a bug eating contest.
Screw it. Let's ride.

Me too...and it seems to get worse with age. Had a blow up from contamination in a restaurant a couple years ago. I never tried crawfish as the Dr. told me not to. How did you figure out you could eat these? I have always wanted to try some.

Re: Crabbing
Wilson gave me a report about catching crabs at mud bugs... And the florabama too I believe..
oke:
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Re: Crabbing
According to the Mayo Clinic (doesn't get much more authoritative than that):
There are several types of shellfish, and each kind contains different allergy-causing proteins.
Crustaceans include crabs, lobster, crayfish, shrimp and prawn.
Mollusks include:
•Bivalves, such as clams, mussels, oysters and scallops
•Gastropods, such as limpets, periwinkles, snails (escargot) and abalone
•Cephalopods, such as squid, cuttlefish and octopus
Some people are allergic to only one type of shellfish, but can eat others. However, some people with a shellfish allergy must avoid all shellfish.Screw it. Let's ride.

I haven't had a shellfish allergy all my life. I started having problem when I was about 19 and it progressively got worse. I can eat crab claws and oysters, but shrimp, lobster, and the crab back fin meat makes me have a flare up. I had a scare at the pier one day and from that point on I always keep a epi-pen in my tackle box.

Re: Crabbing
I had a friend who went into a restaurant and ordered something not knowing it contained shellfish, it was almost the last thing he ever ate. Kinda scary.

Re: Crabbing
The allergies get worse with the passing years and exposure...I have had some scary reactions to certain imported woods....and wasp will send me to the ER...last time I used the epi-pen...I had the needle facing the wrong way...gave myself a shot in the thumb rather than the thigh.... :

Re: Crabbing
The first bite of shrimp I ever had sent me to the hospital at age 7. Went a long time with only a few minor brushes at potlucks, until I had a major blow up a couple of years ago. Since then, even the residue people leave cutting up shrimp on the rails is dangerous. When I notice my fingers burning I'm headed to the water hose to wash and pop benadryl.
I was hoping for some good news about crawfish, but it appears from the Mayo report that my Dr. knew what was best so long ago.
Oh well. I like crappie. :yay:

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
