I have had some reels that wind knotted braid badly, and my brother swore off braid entirely for the same reason but I fish it all the way to 10# with no problem. I read on another forum that wind knots have a lot to do with how the reel lays the line on the spool (no doubt there are other factors)
    realspeed and noah like this.

I had pretty much sworn off braid...but I couldnt resist the hype on Berkely's newer NanoFil line. They claim it is not a mono or braid but a "gel-spun polyethylene"....whatever that means. Any way I bought some...and love it. It is slick and casts further than any line I have used..sinks fast..I bought the 10# line which has a diameter equal to 3# for mono. It is very pricey but I'm hooked on it for the time being.

Depends on how much line the reels hold. my 706's take the whole spool of 20# and my bait rod takes about 1/4 spool. if your wanting to do several off the same spool buy the 1000 meter spools not the 500

I agree with the wind knot problem. I also want to warn you about how easily braid can cut you. If you have a good fish and no net or gaff handy and you try to handline it up to the pier you can very easily get a nasty cut. A few years ago a warden was watching me play down a large Pompano and there was no one around with a net and he offered to hand line it up. About half way up the line slipped and cut him pretty good. Unfortunately the large dolphin pulled off on the line slip. Also he was not too happy about being cut.
