... that's perfect, just add about 12"-18" of 30# to 40# clear mono to help prevent cutoffs.

Awesome. Thanks pier. What about throwing spook hrs, and other top waters that size. Is that size combo ok for that to. I wanna be mobile while I'm walking the beach. Really just trying to have one rod. A good assortment of spoons and a few top waters. And do you use a swivel to connect main line to leader or connect main to leader. If so what knot do you use going from 8# main to 40# leader

I use the double uni-knot when I tie braid to mono or fluorocarbon. May be called the Two uni joint knot.

No swivel, use a knot like Robert mentioned to join light mono to heavy mono.
IF line twist becomes an issue with the spoon add small (black) swivel or snap swivel directly in front of the spoon.

Has anyone ever changed out the treble hook that comes on a cc spoon or casting spoon with a single hook. Like a #3 or #4. Since the lady fish are suppose to be thick in the surf. Just figure it would be easier to get a single out than a treble. But don't want to sacrifice hookups for the ease of getting a hook out. I have changed them out while sandbass fishing, where we are catching them almost every cast, cause usually I'm on the trolling motor and casting for kids. They reel them in and I cast and take the one off they just reeled in. Just didn't know how it would work while using a fast retrieve in the surf.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
