    Usually far from the "best", but definitely "popular" is the High-Low Rig or 'Gulf Rig'

    Double drop pompano rig tied in 20-40lb mono is one of the most useful tools in the surf/pier fishing arsenal. Avoid the ones made of nylon coated wire, the crimps on them are inconsistent and wire isn't needed for pomps, whiting, drum etc.
