I don't know if true or not, but what I've read is that the outer skin should not be allowed to touch the meat, nor should the fillets be allowed to touch the cutting board where the skin had touched/rested. According to this the urea taste is on the skin and readily transfers to the meat if allowed to touch.
I've only cleaned one shark in the last few years. I followed this and did not get any urea taste that I could tell.
FWIW
BTW, I plan to be there if I can and I will have a woven rope with a bit of rebar tie wire inserted to stiffen it and hold it open for shark tails. No guarantees, either of my presence or the rope working, but Ill try.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

maybe the sharks are as smart as crows. whenever we hang a dead crow from our pecan tree they tend to leave it alone. dead sharks thrown over might have the same effect.

Actually, there is some evidence that the scent of shark blood a/o flesh does repel sharks from an area.
Wouldn't it be ironic if the first shark is caught, filleted & the carcass tossed over and then all the other sharks disappear for the rest of shark week??????Carl

I was on the old pier the day (early 90's if I remember correctly) a guy hooked and landed (yes, it was brought up on the pier) a hammerhead that was as long as 3 of the concrete slabs were wide (I'm guessing that the old slabs were 3' wide). It took 8 people to bring the shark up on the pier. A gaff and 2 ski ropes were used (shark was gaffed close to the head and raised up out of the water until it died, then a ski rope was dropped down and wrapped around its head and the 2nd ski rope was dropped down and wrapped around its tail). Once the shark was decked, pictures were taken, and then the guy had several friends come help him drag it down the pier and loaded it into the back of a truck. I don't know if there was any truth to it or not, but I was told by someone who fished the pier a lot at the time that the shark was entered in the OB shark tourney and won.

Actually I think ya'll are dreaming I'll believe a SHARK WEEK when I see it Hope they do but I just don't see them letting you catch sharks off the pier If they do you are not going to get a big shark over that rail I've seen many sharks caught off N C piers over the years and the only way to land it is to Beach it Doubt they are going to allow that but hope they will Something has to be done about the shark problem at the pier Hopefully they are at least trying to figure out something
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
