Re: Beach Replenishment
I met 5 of the people that were working on the dredging boats a couple of months ago..All from Virginia area...No locals were on that crew so I guess thats our money headed out of state.

You need to remember that all construction projects, especially those bid under state contract law, go to the lowest bidder. If the company is licensed to do business in Alabama, are qualified and have the lowest bid, they get the job. Doent matter if they are from Orange Beach, AL or Orange County, CA, lowest qualified bidder gets the job. Thats the law.
And there are no companies located in Alabama that own a dredge capable of doing large scale beach nourishment or any other dredging project that needs a 30"+ dredge.Carl

Re: Beach Replenishment
Seems like with the millions that get spent every couple of years on dredging that the state or someone would save up some money to buy equipment and train a crew to keep our beaches replenished.

Re: Beach Replenishment
I started this thread and do appreciate all the replies. It has been very interesting and informative reading to date. However, In reviewing the updates from the website, can anyone tell me why they keep jumping around?
I'm no rocket surgeon, but It would seem to me to be more fiscally responsible and less time consuming if they started at point "A" and worked to point "B", rather than set up all the necessary equiptment
only to tear it all down, and re-install it again etc. etc.
Anyone....

Re: Beach Replenishment
Whoever first said "follow the money trail" was probably talking about so-called "beach replenishment" :
They are moving to OBch because "that's where the money is" as opposed to the GSPark which was geographically next on the list.
I will spare you the 'soap box' about how I feel about the whole subject >:wall:

Re: Beach Replenishment
I'm reading their website progress and again, with astonishment, at their jumping around from place to place. I see next the will be jumping down to the state park but only half! Why? I guess I'll never understand big business.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
