I'd add some bbs to the bubble full of water. A few trial and error sessions would give you a rough idea of how many bbs you needed based on the speed of the current.

Saw an interesting rig from Texas called a lemon rig for fishing passes. Top part is a partially filled plastic lemon juice lemon, half way or so down is weight, rest of way down is hook and live bait. Bait can dance around but not surface to attract gulls or hide on bottom. Line to rod runs to the middle of rig and stays below surface with semi-direct link to bait. When casting bait and weighted float are roughly together and in line with cast more like a pendulum rig so minimal windmilling (at least that's the claim, YMMV).

I am astonished at regional inventiveness in rigging, and the fact that local customs catch on and get passed on. Kind of like snobbling.

I cannot believe you guys jumping on someone onsite actually TRYING to help (AFTER being asked to volunteer by the pier staff) while some of you are sitting behind your cozy keyboard typing insults.
Many are the same names who have been clamoring for "rule enforcement".
Well you can keep it off here, or take that crap elsewhere!

This forum was put in place (over a decade ago) to fill a need for GSPPier anglers to stay in touch with what is going on at the pier.
Reports mainly, but the pier is as much about the people we meet as the fish we catch (and share).
We love a good joke or sharing a story or experience, just to stay in touch when we can't be at the pier day-to-day like some are.
And I (for one at least) appreciate ANY positive input from any individual either on the pier or this forum.
But it is not here to throw printed rocks at people. Remember what mama said...

I don’t have any strong opinion about said volunteer either way because I’m not there enough for any of it to be a hot button issue for me. But that said, I do understand that for some it sure as heck is.

I’m a big supporter of passionate opinions,..they are what makes the world go ‘round so to speak. And are always the catalyst of any real change in that world.
In my opinion the suggestion of having a committee or board of some sort, comprised of at least some of the fishermen/women would go a long way in the betterment of the entire pier experience, both for fishing and for sightseers. Yea,..I know,...more bureaucracy,...but sometimes that’s the best way to come to a consensus that works for all concerned.

Thank you David, you are correct. I apologize for furthering this in any way. Having someone that is willing to spend time making the pier better is nothing but a good thing. I agree that enforcement has been badly needed, it's my opinion also that we all should be aware of any rule changes and be able to offer input.

I understand some of this is a fine line and it may take some give and take to get it right. I for one should have understood the "proposed" part of the rule change better.

The two line trolley fishing is very effective and isn't a tangle issue at all even with the real large fish , I fish that way in North Carolina all the time , If your hooked up on you fighting rod as you go up or down the pier the other Trolley guys lift up or drop their lines as needed . The biggest problem is with tourist fishermen that don't understand that you have the right of way and don't get out of the way . But that happens so infrequently it's not a issue . It's the best way to hold a live bait at a spot and depth to catch fish , The single line Trolley as used before everyone started the two line but it isn't as effective .
