I took a peek at the seas from the beach and with the short reach and WNW direction of travel the waves coming ashore are not that bad as far as something that might damage the pier. The waves are not very organized - really choppy. That may change in a few hours when the south wind hits, but I hope not.
I may be wrong, but I think the pier should be fine.
Edit: 8:00 pm - Ouch. Winds are dropping, but moving to the south. Wave heights are still building and the surge is increasing at Perdido Pass.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

It looks like we dodged a bullet-not meaning that there isn't damage but it could have been much worse. Here on the east side of Foley there are a lot of smaller limbs down and a fair amount of ponding water, Wolf Bay is what looks like 1 1/2' above high tide.

7:30 am Wade Dunn reported:
Talked to pier. Lost 6 -7 boards/panels. Going to open soon to the octi, and shouldn’t take long (today) to fix the remainder.Last edited by Pier#r; 09-05-2018 at 08:36 AM.

Hiya fellas. Was considering planning a trip to the pier next weekend (15th and 16th), driving down from Birmingham. Just wanted to know if the weather will be cleared out by then. Any suggestions? I'd hate to make the trip all the way down and get rained out.

Here we go again...
Now a 'high probability' of development by early next week!
And most of the computer models show a TS moving northward to the north-northeast by mid week.
This MAY be more of a Florida panhandle problem, but too early to tell for sure...

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
