I'm sitting at the computer with a good, hot, oak wood fire in the fireplace, watching the sleet bounce off the window pane and beginning to accumulate on the fire ant mounds in the edge of the woods. Just had five gobblers walk by pecking at the sleet and wondering what this new stuff is. If we get too much snow/ice accumulation the deer will be nervous for a week from all the pine limbs breaking under their loads---the last time we had these conditions I watched a forkhorn jump and run every time a limb popped and he didn't know whether he was coming or going---probably gave him the scours. Radar tells me it's going to start snowing any time so I'd better go check my mail, I mean patrol the back roads for carloads of stranded cheerleaders.

'Bout my speed. Reminds me of the questions to ask the raghea---I mean our Islamic neighbors---as to their 72 virgins when they get to paradise. Are they all female? Are they all young? Are they human? Do you care? Will you know the difference?
BDL---I expect I'll be at the pier except for the first couple of weeks of turkey season in March, and even then I'll have to tear loose from the birds to catch some sheepshead.

I live on Lay Lake and the roads are a mess. I live in Shelby county and Coosa county is across the river. Coosa county just announced that all roads in the county are closed to public travel. my wife and grandkids just safely made it home from Columbiana (12 miles) and it took over an hour. Lots of wrecks.... Weather man has been telling us all the action will be in south Alabama so everyone caught short. Kids stranded at school because bus runs canceled in Shelby county. At 9am this morning the roads were getting bad and yet our School board did not close school until 1130a. Wait until reelection time. If ya'll get worse than here then hang onto your jock straps...............

ICICLES?!?!
Something you don't see often on a gulf coast beach cam...
2014-0128_Icicles.JPG
or in a report from the GSPark...
There were several FB videos of 'steam' condensation rising from the relatively warm gulf waters today...
No snow as yet, but a fair amount of freezing rain and sleet.
NWS now says a slight chance of snow before the precipitation moves eastward after midnight.Last edited by Pier#r; 01-28-2014 at 05:57 PM.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
