Yes, it is called "over wash".
The much larger than average waves (and temporary high water level) literally push the beach sand into the back bay (or Lagoon).
Cumulatively, over time that is what is responsible for the long shallow points in the Lagoon.
Hopefully, this storm won't be strong enough to do much of that!

NOAA
nate strengthening and now expected to be a category 2 hurricane at landfall on the central gulf coast... ...new tropical storm warning for portions of the florida panhandle...Ragnar Benson:
Never, under any circumstances, ever become a refugee.
Die if you must, but die on your home turf with your face to the wind, not in some stinking hellhole 2,000 kilometers away, among people you neither know nor care about.

The center of circulation is on Long Range NO radar. I don't see much.
It is going to be interesting to watch the front come in and steer this thing, You can see the front clearly on the So. Miss Valley radar mosaic.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
