That pier is about to be destroyed....the "octi" is swaying several feet in both directions with each wave, and it hasn't even gotten bad yet.

All the piers on the NC coast were/are privately owned. All of them were/are made of wood except the Johnny Mercer pier in Wrightsville Beach.

Those wooden piers are like wooden rollercoasters; the theory is that the "give" absorbs the shock lika a ship at sea rides out the waves.
Perhaps so, but i don't ride wooden coasters either.

Does anyone know if the Oceanana fishing pier made it through the storm. The gazebo on the front end was wobbling when the live video was being streamed.

The end of the pier is gone/collapsed and the rest of the pier had extensive damage but is still standing. https://www.thestate.com/news/article218481520.html
There's a short video of the present state of things.

The flag is for sale on EBay with 100% of proceeds going to the Red Cross. The owner of the tower donated the flag to the Red Cross for the auction. It is a 3 day auction, last count $631.00, started at 10pm EST tonight. Frying Pan tower is a neat place, owner bought it at a government for $85k a few years ago, now a B&B.
BACK TO THE flag, bid high fellas, a good cause.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
