Thread: How Cold is it

I did my basic training there this time of year. Great Lakes. For a young man from Alabama I thought I would freeze to death. I don't think the wind ever stopped blowing

I've worked in -22 and -17 degrees. Plenty enough to know I don't want any more of it.

Last job I worked in Chicago I was 125 feet in the air, the high was 25 and the winds 35mph. My afib was so bad that if I got 4 good heartbeats in a row it was worth celebrating. That was the last for me.

Same here! They sent me to Ft. Drum, Ny only good thing was the salmon run..lol

I was deferred from my next assignment when they reactivated the 10th Mountain Div. at Ft.Drum after 4 years at Ft.Wainwright AK.A call to the Captain that would have been my commander revealed that the whole base was under construction and we would be working and living in old WWII Buildings and the time line for finishing would be when I would be leaving , And there was no housing for family so it was a unaccompanied tour as much as I loved AK I was ready for a warmer climate , l choose to get out and go Army Reserves . I got my warm climate a few years later in the 1st. Gulf War . so careful what you ask for

19 degrees on my patio here South of Atlanta again.

In all fairness it did snow (albeit briefly) in Thomasville about 100 miles north of the pier.
And Birmingham had a decent snowfall Tuesday morning.
But the effects of that weather or this morning's "Polar vortex" did not really reach the coast (as advertised).
Much of the immediate coastal area did NOT fall below freezing, though a "hard freeze" was forecast when they decided to close the pier yesterday.

Thank goodness!

Birmingham was a bust as far as snow. The cold air was too slow overtaking the bulk of the rain mass, so it was hit or miss as to whether you saw any or not. Most woke up to a light dusting, maybe a half-inch if you were lucky. Ground temps and the rain kept it from sticking too much. Balmy 24 at my house this morning (in NW Jefferson County). Looks like a decent warmup headed into the weekend. Hoping to catch a Marengo County buck or two chasing some tail Saturday and Sunday. Here's to tight lines for those of you headed to the pier!
