A shower seems to have little affect on removing them. as mentioned, for privates nail polish other areas, tape or chlorine bath. I know a tree arborist, he says in during chigger/tick season after work each day he grabs a cold beverage and takes a soak in his chlorinated hot tub. He claims that it helps for both redbugs and ticks.

Back in the day on the farm we used rubbing alcohol to get rid of them but if you've scratched them raw it burns like you know what

If you are feeling the itch, the chiggers have already fed and dropped off. All you can do is treat the itch. The bleach bath helps. Benedryl has helped.

Heck when I was a kid under 10 i kept them on my sack and straw,white flower heads are loaded with them,mytholaid and macuracrom burnt like you cant believe,then nail polish

From what I read, even though chiggers are tiny they can crawl the length of a persons body in about 15 minutes. They are also small enough to work their way through the gaps in most woven fabrics. Wear shorts on a hot day and you've just made it that much easier for the chiggers to make a meal of your nethers...
