Abreviation for octagon.
The pier has a 'mid octi' and the larger end 'octi'.

I was new to it last year and the first thing I did was went out on the pier without even carrying any tackle and watched the ones catching fish and what they was using. The second thing I did was find this forum and took the advise to go to J&M where the staff is second to none. They got me what I needed and worked around my budget also. Just a warning, it is addictive. Once I had my stuff I still watched and asked questions and the people I met were more than willing to help me.
