Just heard it rumored today at the weir
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

oh good... the rule my dad told me was believe half of what you see and only 14 what you hear.....that being said using that rule the pier will be open in 2 weeks.....

considering the damage that has been shown in the pics surely it would not be more than that unless there is more than we have seen...

Can I catch anything from the surf before I leave Sunday, or will just be getting some casting practice?
    [/quote]

In the surf, you would likely just be getting excercise.
When you can get to the Little Lagoon Pass try there, or Perdido Pass.

Pier#r, I can walk to Perdido Pass tomorrow as long as the weather is decent I'm about 1/2 mile away, what should I throw as in artificial bait. I would have to fish the west side by the way.

    Thanks

Re: How long does it take for the water to clear up ???

No telling what will happen after this storm but most of the time fishing is terrible till the water cleans up.I've been through every storm since 1979 and these are the three exceptions at the pass.#3,Freddy,1979. I did not have a chance to take part because we had one hell of a mess to deal with, but the red snapper bite was very good according to people.#2,Andrew,1992.After destroying Miami,he decided to visit the Gulf Coast and the only good thing that happened was the slot reds were in the pass by the thousands for several weeks.#1,Elena,1985.For weeks we had the most awesome fish killing any human could dream of at the where ever any structure was located. The day after the storm I walk out on pier on Terry Cove and I could see the rope on my bait trap moving and when I picked it up there were two 5lb grouper in it.I grabbed a rod and caught several more.My dad was riding around and ran into these guys at the pass that had a butt load of grouper fishing from the sea wall. For several days lots of people were catching several hundred pounds a day and I have no idea how many thousand pounds I sold till they were gone.......

That grouper killing was something to be remembered. Harry Allen and I murdered them in Perdido Pass---the bottom dropped out of the grouper market so many were being sold.

Try a Gulp Shrimp off the seawall near the corner. Bounce on the bottom.
It will likely still be too rough today though with the hard SE and swells coming in the channel.

    Good luck!
