Moving to gulf shores
Thought I would put this post here so more could see since I got on a roll It's all true
Take it from me If there is anyway possible for you to make the move to Gulf Shores" DO IT " I'm originally from North Carolina and lived for 10 years on the water on the Mississippi Gulf Coast after an early retirement and have traveled to many tropical destinations and absolutely nothing compares to living in Gulf Shores on the beach We moved here in September 2013 and my only regret is we didn't do it 10 years earlier It is spectacular I'm looking at the beach right now and I can take my dogs for a walk and be the only person on the beach Temperature is comfortable with a jacket I love Pier Fishing and the Gulf State Pier is absolutely the best pier fishing environment that you could ever find so much so that I sold my boat and the responsibilty and cost that came with it because I didn't need it Even so I now have access locally to 16-20 boats from 16-24 ft and over 200 nationally for a cost per month for less than it was costing me to store my boat at a marina All I have to do is call or reserve one and it s sitting in the water waiting for me When I'm through fishing I drive it back to the dock park it get out and go home No cleaning putting up etc No paying for repairs insurance etc Doesn't get much better than that and I'm thinking about giving that up because the Pier and Surf fishing is so great and easy that I don't even have time to use the boats Off season resturant deals are unbelieveable Wife and I eat great seafood for less than $10 total for both almost anytime we want Even the summers are not bad from a crowd standpoint if you get away from Orange Beach ( I live 9 miles down Fort Morgan RD with easy access to everything and almost have the beach to myself in the Fall ) Real Estate values for a buy in the right area are increasing at 10-12% even 15% a year It just goes on and on Didn't mean to get longwinded I just wish someone had told me these things 10 years ago I know where I would have been I'd advise anyone that could to move here or maybe I really shouldn't Don't want to let too many know how close to Heaven this is At any rate if I can assist anyone in securing a little piece of this Heaven let me know I know some excellent Realtors Fishing Locations and Guides Places to Avoid Places to Look At Boat Clubs etc

I'm giving some thought to moving there as it is only the wife and I now. I'll be coming down in October for a month and plan on looking at small homes that may be for sale out on Ft Morgan Road. Maybe we can hook up when I'm there and you can tell me what you know about home prices, taxes and general cost of living in that area. We are retired and financially secure with no major medical problems. However, you never know so the quality of medical care in the area is also a concern at our age. Tennessee is a great place to live, but the 10 to 20 degree tempeture increase between Gulf Shores and Knoxville would be a plus for us. Not to mention the shorter drive to fish in the Gulf. The boat club/rental thing would be of interest to me also as I do like to fish off shore from time to time. Lets talk.

Dan sounds like the Gulf Shores chamber of commerce needs to hire you as salesman.

In the process of selling our condo down there and hoping to buy a house. Been looking out Ft. Morgan Road. Having a hard time finding what we are looking for.

Dan have the new laws you guys passed down there affected values at all? What about Gulf Shores splitting from Baldwin Co Schools? Unfortunately I know a lot of people up here who are swearing off visiting AL and GA right now...

Primarily the abortion one. It is kind of nuts that if a woman were to be raped and has an abortion her rapist would face less jail time than her doctor.
Gulf Shores is probably better off anyways with not having some of these people visit anyways LOL.

So you think property values have dropped due to a law that was passed less than a month ago? Something tells me real estate buyers and sellers haven't caught on yet. Maybe prices will drop enough that I can afford a place down there so day but I predict no end to the migration from the high tax deep freeze states to the sunny and warmer states.(https://www.illinoispolicy.org/illin...straight-year/) I welcome visitors here regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political views or fishing skills. It is worth noting that Baldwin County voted for Donald Trump 76.55% versus Hillary Clinton 19.39%. I doubt the 76.55% are overly concerned about being "sworn off" by liberals up north.

I don’t know real estate that’s why I was asking. And I’m 100% in accepting all people. You’re probably right that most people moving down there would have a conservative slant regardless of the law.
