rope length
Can someone suggest what type, diameter, and length of rope I should have on a hoop pier net and a King gaff ? What I have been using is almost useless because it tangles and is to small in diameter. Thanks .

Re: rope length
king gaff 1/2 in. solid braid....and pier pest suggested double solid braid, hoop net, 5/16 or 3/8 ....again solid braid.....and I would make them 40ft in length for the other piers on the pan handle....that are 30ft above the water to the deck

Re: rope length
Have one of Bill's king gaffs.
Definitely 40' for GSPP.
Had 30' and after tying it on, it left no room for error.
The 30' was 1/2" double braid nylon. Didn't like it because it picked up every snag, hook, and splinter on the deck. Two day's use and had many spots where the outer layer was nicked up. Went into the truck tool box for tow rope.
The 40' is 1/2" three strand - twist nylon. Like it much better. Bought it at Blue Water Ship's Store between GS and Foley (8103 Hwy 59 - west side of the highway)
Slap an anchor bend knot on it, seize the tag end and you're in bidness

Re: rope length
The down side to the tri braid is that if it gets wrapped around the line somehow it could possibly get stuck between the tri-braid and possibly popping off the fish. That is the reason I use the double braid.

Re: rope length
Never thought about that - makes sense. But I see a bunch of it out there and haven't heard anyone bitching about it. I figure there are so many other things that can go wrong, that one will just have to get in line. No pun intended.
Screw it. Let's ride.

Re: rope length
Can't remember what diameter it was, but my hoop net has 35ft of black rope that I bought from Home Depot. It is approximately an inch or so thick, maybe less. Braided fiber like material. Real comfortable in the hand. Will try to post a close up of it over the next couple of days when I get a chance.

[size=12pt]Here is the cheapest nylon rope I’ve seen, if you don’t mind used stuff.

Re: rope length
Guys , Thanks for all the info !!!!!!! Will be looking for the pics of the Depot black line . . Will most likely go with 1\2 inch for both the hoop net and gaff . Seems it might be cheaper to buy a 100ft bulk than to get two lengths of different sizes .
