Reel question
I understand that the proper thing to do while hunkered down for a hurricane (or what's left of one) is reel maintenance. Well, I spooled up a spinning reel I've had no problems with before, and I've got noticeably more line toward the top of the spool than the bottom. Any ideas what could have caused this all of a sudden? I haven't taken the reel down or anything...just new line.
Just something to do while the wind blows and I watch for the next "flash" and "boom" of another transformer biting the dust.

Re: Reel question
If you removed the spool, you failed to replace a washer or shim from under the spool.

Re: Reel question
No, there were no washers or spacers missing and all were in the right place.. I have another reel, same model, so I switched the spools, pulled the line off, and it still loaded back on with a decided tilt toward the top end of the spool. Can't figure it out. Maybe this spool is messed up somehow.

Re: Reel question
It's an okuma 55. Went back to your suggestion, and took the plastic "keeper" washer off an old reel and put it on top of the one that came on it. Then I spooled up again and it did fine. Line looks good. I'll have to try it out fishing, but it appears to be problem solved....at least for now. Still a mystery as to why it started doing it, though.
Thanks much, DRH.

+1!
The staff at J&M Tackle do an excellent job, speaking from many experiences. Great selection of line, good prices, line spooled on perfectly -- you can't ask for anything better. Now if only you had a store in, say, Little Rock? Only two places have machines that I have found here and their line selection is pitiful. No momoi at all....what's up with that?

Re: Reel question
Leave the line on the reel spool and we will dump it onto a line spool then put it on correctly when you come down.
