    Old Daiwas - 4000 or 7000

I'm looking to get a decent set up for slinging cigs/pogies etc. I know a lot of y'all are Penn 706 fans, but I have always liked the old Daiwas. My dad used one 30 some odd years ago on the old pier, so maybe that's why I'm biased. I can't remember if he used a 7000C or 4000C. I've not been able to find line capacity for these reels on the internet (but I'm not real patient). So here's my question - Is the 7000 overkill? Will a 4000 hold enough 20lb test to fish for kings off the pier? Thansk for your input

    Re: Old Daiwas - 4000 or 7000

Hi Terry. Welcome to the forum! :yippee:

I fished the Silver series Diawas back in the late 1970s.
They were cutting edge back then, with a pretty good drag.
Built like a tank (weighed nearly as much) and one of THE most reliable reels I've ever owned.
Still have most of mine in fact, though they haven't been used in 25 years.

Anyway the 7000c holds about 250 yards of 20# mono, about 275yds of 17# and 300 yds of 15#.
The 4000c holds about 300 yards of 15# and 250 yds of 17#
    The 2600c holds 350 yds of 10# and 275 yds of 12#
    The 1600c holds 270 yds of 6# and 200 yds of 8#

    Hope this helps!
So to answer your querstion the IMHO the 4000C would be OK for kingfishing if you use 15# mono.

Thanks David. I'm thinking he used a 4000.

My Dad had a silver Diawa 4000. Yep, it sure was heavy and built like a tank!
It lasted from around 1982 until around 2004 when the spool shaft bent.

[size=12pt]Since I have never had the opportunity one-up #r; all be it a small technicality, I am going to seize the moment.
The Daiwa 7000c holds 350 yards of 15# mono! Sorry David, this is probably the only time I will ever be right about something fishing related! oke1:

I love and use Daiwa myself. Silver Series and Black Gold reels are my favorites.
Have a 4000c with 15# on a King rod and a 7000c with 20# on my Ling rod.
Love my BG 30s and BG60s too.

[size=12pt]Another great thing about the Daiwa Silver Series reels is that annoying clicker when you reel in.
It drives them manual p/u, bearing spinning, 706 dudes nuts! :yippee:

Thanks for the 6 oclock Fin :headbang:
I could not find my 4000c or 7000c in the garage and had to pull those numbers off "Google-gan" oke1:

BTW, don't talk bad about my noisy 706 or I'll have to bring it next time to 'make a statement' :violent

    Re: Old Daiwas - 4000 or 7000

I have one that I got from my parents since they don't fish too much anymore. It is probably from sometime in the eighties. It is an A-250RL. A little squeaky, a little slap back, and a little worn bit drag is still good and it catches fish!
