    Re: penn battle 1000

Why a Battle? Do yourself a favor and broaden your search to include the Sargus 1000. It is essentially the same reel less the HT100 drag washers and the rubber band on the spool arbor. There is no advantage to Having HT100 washers in a reel that size and the rubber band is totally unnecessary on a reel of any size.
If you don't want to order off the internet then go to a real sporting goods store or bait and tackle shop that is a Penn dealer and have them special order one for you.

The extra bearing is a spool bearing. A spool bearing doesn't do much to improve a reel other than add to the bearing count to lure in customers. Whoever told you a Battle is smoother and will last longer doesn't know what they are talking about. Every single internal part on a Battle is borrowed from the corresponding Sargus.
Cosmetics, I can't argue with you on that. As the saying goes, "You can't account for taste." There is no way for me or anyone other than you to decide what you want in how the reel looks or how much time, effort or money you expend getting what you want. I was just trying to help you be an informed buyer and not be duped by slick marketing or untrue testimonials. Good luck finding your reel.

A piece of athletic tape is my go to...But anyway had good luck with both reels... Oh and drH Is right on with the comparison
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Even that isn't necessary. Braid slipping on a spool is the biggest myth in fishing.
